Banxy – education information 2009.  

 

Education is at the heart of everything Banxy does.

 

All his workshops offer participants the chance to learn new and challenging moves, explore their own creativity and engage positively with others whilst learning in a fun and safe environment.

 

Banxys’ workshops are suitable for those aged 7+ and will be individually tailored to suit the experience levels of the specific group and age.

 

Brief Banxy Biog

Banxy is a veteran in UK hip hop dance. Having trained at Swindon Dance, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and the London Studio Centre, he has spent the last sixteen years teaching and performing across the UK and abroad.

High-profile projects Banxy has been involved with include dancing and choreographing Jonzi D’s Me Vs the City and Aeroplane Man tours, choreographing breakdance sequences for the BBC TV series Travels with my Tutu with Deborah Bull, Principle Dancer at the Royal Ballet; and teaching and rehearsing  the ground performance dancers at the Millennium Dome celebrations.

He has appeared as a dancer in many TV shows, live events and music videos, including George Michael’s Spinning the Wheel.

Banxy has been heavily involved with Swindon Dance throughout his professional career and was commissioned to perform at their 25th Anniversary Gala. Most recently he appeared in the BBC Blast programme as part of the Big Dance event in Trafalgar Square, and gained second place in the Battle of the Desert competition in Almeria, Spain.

 

Banxy toured his first full length production Busk: Kings of the Sidewalk extensively to packed houses throughout the UK in the Autumn of 2007, will be touring to theatres and arts centres a triple bill of new work in the Autumn of 2009, and when not touring delivers extensive education and outreach to a wide variety of ages and abilities throughout the UK.

 

Available workshops:

B boy/B girl skills   

2-hr workshop

 

The idea behind b boy/b girl skills workshop is to give the students/participants a crash course in the original foundation of breakin’.

 

They will learn all the basic fundamentals of what it takes to become a B boy/B girl and the 2 hour session includes:  

 

 1] Warm up - basic stretches /balance /freezes

 

2] Tops - basic up rock / indian step / brooklyn rock

 

3] footwork - 6 step / kick outs /

 

4] go downs - knee drop / corkscrew

 5] drills – Students/participants will then have time to work on their own set, using their own vocabulary and the moves they have learnt.

 

6] Throwdown – Students/participants form a circle and one at a time throwdown what they have been practicing, the teacher will also be involved showing the students the different styles and ways of throwing-down.

 

Banxy also offers curtain raisers, residencies and teacher training sessions. Please contact makin projects for further details and to discuss options.
