State of Matter is the latest dance work by 2FaCeD DaNcE, the all male, award winning, break, street and contemporary dance company.
Featuring eight male dancers, with gravity defying moves, acrobatics, break dance, robotics, street and contemporary dance, State of Matter is an hour of intense energy and vibe. Set alongside an amazing soundtrack with stunning lighting State of Matter will take you on a journey that looks at dance in its purist form.
State of Matter is about the dance styles, movement, the articulation and extremes that the body can be taken too. It is about taking dance theatre back to basics, peeling back the layers that complicate and seeing it for what it really is.

2FaCeD Dance Company are also offering satellite performances ‘State of Play’, which are designed to take their performance work outside your venue and into your local community. This will act as a taster and audience builder prior to State of Matter.

Formed in 1998 2FaCeD DaNcE Company is the company in residence at the Courtyard Centre For The Arts, Hereford. The company was established to provide young people living in a rural area the opportunity to study alternative dance forms not normally offered outside major cities. 2FaCeD DaNcE Company gradually built a successful programme of dance classes for young people in and around Herefordshire as well as providing performance opportunities. Later in 2003, Artistic Director Tamsin Fitzgerald auditioned for local boys interested in taking dance to the next level and to perform outside of the local area.
In 2004 the company visited The Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the first time and received a wealth of critical acclaim as well as sell out performances. Next was the National Youth Dance Performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome before scooping up an abundance of 5 star reviews as well as winning Pick of the Fringe 05 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later in the summer. Since Edinburgh the company have been invited to perform at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon as well as for Medium Rare in Bush Hall, London 05and 06; Cancer Backup 06, London; The Criterion, London; Double Bill at the Worcester Swan 06; Triple Bill at The Patrick Centre, Birmingham alongside Company Decalage in 06; NDTA Conference 06, The Reindeer, Brick Lane in London 2006, Breakin Convention 2007 and The Swan Worcester 2007.
Tamsin Fitzgerald – Artistic Director and Choreographer
Tamsin trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance where she gained a BA in Dance Performance. After graduating Tamsin worked with a diverse range of artists and within schools before coming back to Hereford. Since setting up 2FaCeD DaNcE in 1998 Tamsin has received a wealth of critical acclaim for her work including a Pick of the Fringe in 2005 and creating work for the highly acclaimed German entertainers the Caesar Twins which toured internationally. Tamsin has been guest speaker at the National Youth Dance Conference and at the National Dance Teachers association (NDTA), and is now a member of the West Midlands Youth dance Advisory Board. She has also recently received the prestigious 2007 Rayne Fellowship award for her innovative choreographic ideas.
