Myths and Monsters

Where can you find a creature that is half eagle and half lion? Or one that is half horse, half fish? Or half lion, half goat and half snake? Wait, that’s impossible… or is it?

Not in the crazy, mixed-up world of ancient Greek stories, it’s not!

Let Craig Johnson of Squashbox Theatre guide you through this strange, magical world, using a quirky and ingenious blend of puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy - all presented in that unique Squashbox style!

Meet the brave heroes and immortal gods of ancient Greece, such as Heracles, Odysseus, Perseus, Zeus and Aphrodite!

Encounter some of the mixed-up monsters of legend, such as the Minotaur, the Harpies, the Cyclops and the terrifying gorgon, Medusa!

Learn about the ways ancient Greece has shaped the modern world, from theatre and philosophy to mathematics and music!

I have consulted the mysterious Oracle of Delphi and seen the future: and I can guarantee that Squashbox Theatre’s new show will be legendary!

Tales from the Trees

Tales from the Trees is a terrific tangle of puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy, with a theme that embraces natural history, folklore and ecology. Let Squashbox Theatre be your guide to the tremendous world of Trees!

Say hello to the friendly Forest Ranger, our resident outdoor expert; meet the mysterious old Wizard of the Woods, a friend to all the forest creatures; gaze at the beautiful Dryad, mystical spirit of the trees; encounter crazy characters, woodland wonders, and fantastic flora and fauna. Learn how to identify different trees, discover the wonder of photosynthesis, gasp at deadly carnivorous plants and watch flowers growing before your very eyes. Listen! The trees have tales to tell.

CURIOUS CREATURES!

Welcome to the ‘Curious Creatures’ wildlife park, established by Jeremiah Johnson: world-renowned explorer, zoologist and animal collector. Nobody knows more about animals than him.

Unfortunately, Jeremiah Johnson is currently lost somewhere in the jungles of Africa, so he has handed the running of the park over to his inexperienced nephew Craig… and things don’t quite go as planned.

STONES & BONES

is a marvellous mix of history and mystery!

Find out all about archaeology and fossils, say hello to one of your stone-age ancestors, hear stories of giants and wizards, see a volcano erupting before your very eyes, and maybe even glimpse a dinosaur or two…

‘Craig is a consummate actor of rare skills. Totally at ease with his audience, adult and child alike, he combines an innate understanding and joy in storytelling with fantastic comic and musical skill.’
Mike Shepherd, Founder and Artistic Director, Kneehigh Theatre
‘Craig’s success lies in the fact that he talks to, rather than at, his young audience, and he does it all with a huge sense of joy and fun that is as inspiring as it is infectious... An engaging entertainer to be treasured.’
Frank Ruhrmund, ‘The Cornishman’
‘Squashbox Theatre has been performing here at the Minack since 2009 and now plays to over 700 people per performance during our peak summer season. Craig is a true professional, he copes with everything that the Cornish weather can throw at him and rises to the occasion no matter whether he has 50 or 750 people in the audience! His shows delight audiences of all ages, but are particularly fantastic at introducing younger children to live theatre.’
Zoe Curnow, Artistic Director, The Minack Theatre
